DC’s Legends of Tomorrow has been reveling in the weirdness on The CW for three seasons and hopes to continue its niche superhero madness in season four. As for how the star-studded entry into the Arrowverse is going to accomplish that…well, we’ve got some information fans might want to know.
At San Diego Comic-Con, the cast and producers held a special video presentation before their Q&A panel, which featured stars stars Caity Lotz, Brandon Routh, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, Jes Macallan, and Courtney Ford alongside showrunner Phil Klemmer and producer Keto Shimiz talking about how Constantine, fairy tale fugitives, and plenty of time travel are coming fans’ way.
That’s after the debuted footage showcasing at least one unicorn and dragon that the Legends unleashed on the world. The sneak peek also included Paul Revere getting knocked out and a brief brush with Jimi Hendrix (and The Beatles) at Woodstock as the heroes hop all around the timeline trying to right their wrongs.
There are also some cast additions: Santa Clarita Diet’s Ramona Young will play Alaska Yu, a member of the Time Bureau, while Back to the Future’s Tom Wilson is joining the season as Nate’s estranged father. Things are getting simultaneously more ridiculous and more grounded as the Legends continue causing their own problems.
Season 4 of Legends of Tomorrow airs on Oct. 22 on The CW.
This week’s DC All Access takes a long hard look at the importance of representation on television and in the DCU as we dive into the recent diversity panel held on the Warner Bros. lot and featuring cast members and creative talent from all across the Arrowverse. They talk to Caity Lotz, Echo Kellum, Nafessa Williams, Keiynan Lonsdale and Creative Executive Renee Reiff about this vital topic, the role each of them are playing in bringing it to the forefront and what message they hope to get across to fans.
After defeating the demon Mallus by cuddling him to death with a giant stuffed animal named Beebo, the Legends are ready to ease off the gas. Sara (Caity Lotz) and her team join Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan) and the Time Bureau to help clean up the last few remaining anachronisms. The job seems straightforward enough until Constantine (Matt Ryan) arrives to inform them that, in solving one major problem, they have created another, much larger one. When the Legends let time crumble in order to release and defeat Mallus, the barrier between worlds softened. History is now infected with “Fugitives” – magical creatures from myths, fairytales, and legends. Having been expelled throughout time by people like Constantine, these Fugitives are now returning to our world in droves and making a real mess of things. As the Time Bureau is distrustful of and ill-equipped to deal with magic, the Legends must team up with everyone’s favorite demonologist to set history back on track. Sara and Constantine are joined by compassionate inventor Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), hotheaded ex-con Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell), rebellious totem-bearer Zari (Tala Ashe), and heartbroken historian-turned-superhero Nate (Nick Zano) as they set out to save the world – and their legacy. It’s the familiar fun of the Legends time-travelling across historical events and encountering famous figures with an added shot of magical craziness!
Based on the characters from DC, DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl”), Phil Klemmer (“The Tomorrow People,” “Chuck”) and Sarah Schechter (“Arrow,” “The Flash”).
Hello, friends! Caity attended two conventions in three days this weekend. Today (April 8) she attended ClexaCon to meet fans and also joined Maisie Richardson-Sellers to talk about her characters in Legends of Tomorrow and later joined SheThority panel with Maisie and Chyler Leigh. Our gallery was updated with HQ pictures and below you can watch the full video:
SEASON FINALE — The Legends plan to vanquish Mallus by using the totems doesn’t go as planned, forcing Rip (guest star Arthur Darvill) to improvise. The team finds itself regrouping in the Wild West where they run into their old pal Jonah Hex (guest star Johnathon Schaech). Sara (Caity Lotz) leaves Ray (Brandon Routh) in charge of watching Damien Darhk (Neal McDonaugh), while she comes up with a new plan. Meanwhile, Amaya (Maisie Richarson-Sellers) is determined to find a way to use the totems to destroy Mallus. Dominic Purcell, Tala Ashe, Keiynan Lonsdale, Nick Zano and Franz Drameh also star. Dermott Downs directed the episode written by Marc Guggenheim & Phil Klemmer (#318).
Collider — Though Legends of Tomorrow is finishing up its (super awesome) third season in another week*, it won’t be the last that we’ll see of Caity Lotz‘s Captain Sara Lance in the Arrowverse this year. As we were told exclusively today, Lotz will be making an appearance on the season finale of Arrow on May 17th. There are no more details to that storyline as of yet (since Arrow is just now returning from a short hiatus tonight), which means there is a lot to speculate on.
*Before we get to Arrow though, I need everyone to know that not only is the Legends‘ season finale titled “Guest Starring John Noble” (which, you know, he is), but it will feature Grodd trying to attack a young Barack Obama. If you aren’t watching this show, what are you doing with your life?
Back to Arrow — The first thing that comes to mind regarding Sara’s return to Star City is Laurel, and how Quentin is dealing with trying to rehab Earth-2/Black Canary. One wonders if it’ll be a moment of acceptance for Sara, or will she swoop in to slap her dad and remind him this isn’t reallyhis daughter? (Poor Quentin has been through a lot). A less likely possibility is that something from Legends‘ storyline (either the Darhks or something regarding Mallus) will play into Arrow. But as we’ve seen in the past, Arrow is better off when magic isn’t part of its plot.
As for Sara, she’s had a really great character arc on Legends this year, not only in assuming control of the Waverider (which makes so much sense), but also in her battle with her dark nature through Mallus. And, it’s been really nice to see her open up a little more with Ava, and working on having a real relationship (after a number of historical flings, of course, as well as a quick Constantine hookup). Her role on Legends has changed so much from being Black Canary (and then White Canary) on Arrow though, it’ll be interesting to see how she will fit back into their world outside of a full crossover, and what it will mean for that team.
